Franco Seminars are designed to open up spaces for focused, interdisciplinary dialogue on novel or enduring questions in the liberal arts. Scholars are invited to propose a series of workshops, reading groups, or public events in combination over a period of no longer than 18 months. Although Franco Seminars may initiate a longer project or program of study, they are designed to be self-contained opportunities for faculty and students in the College to come together around an idea or problem for a set period of time.
Franco Faculty Seminars will take one of two forms:
- Reading groups or workshops culminating in a large-scale event organized by seminar participants.
- A series of two-to-three public lectures or discussions addressing the proposed topic.
These seminars will be hosted by the Franco Institute and supported by the Institute’s events team. Aside from reading groups, workshops, and planning meetings, all sponsored events must be open to the public and take place on the University of Notre Dame main campus or in South Bend.
Applications must be submitted through the Franco Institute’s Submittable portal by 11:59 p.m. on September 1, 2025. Late submissions or submissions submitted via email will not be accepted. Decisions will be announced in mid-October.
